Putting People Over Politics: A Smarter Approach to Taxes

For too many Stafford families, property tax bills are climbing higher and higher. At the same time, county spending keeps growing — with millions poured into pay raises for bureaucrats, new holidays for government employees, and projects that don’t always align with residents’ priorities. It’s no wonder so many people feel like their voices are being ignored.

Let’s be clear: government should live within its means, just like every household and business in our county. Raising taxes should never be the first answer. Instead, we should be asking tough questions about how tax dollars are being spent and whether those decisions reflect the needs of the community.

I believe in fiscal responsibility. That means setting priorities, cutting waste, and ensuring every dollar works harder for taxpayers. It means focusing on infrastructure, schools, and public safety — not bloated government perks. And it means being honest with residents about the trade-offs involved in every budget decision.

Other counties in Virginia have shown it’s possible to keep taxes low while still delivering quality services. What makes the difference is leadership that respects taxpayers and treats public money with care.

When I look around Stafford, I see families who are already stretched thin by inflation, higher mortgage rates, and the rising cost of living. The last thing they need is a county government that piles on more burdens.

If you share my belief that Stafford should put people over politics when it comes to taxes and spending, I hope you’ll stand with me. Together, we can restore common-sense budgeting and make sure our county government serves the people — not the other way around.
