Planning for Growth Without Losing Our Character

Stafford County is growing — fast. And while growth can bring opportunities, it also brings challenges that demand careful planning. If we don’t manage it well, we risk losing the very qualities that make our community a special place to live.
Too often, development decisions are made in ways that put profit over people. Large-scale projects are approved without adequate consideration for how they will impact roads, schools, public safety, and the rural character of our county. The result is traffic congestion, crowded classrooms, and strained infrastructure.
Growth isn’t the enemy. But poorly managed growth is. What we need is a balanced approach — one that welcomes new neighbors and opportunities while respecting existing communities and protecting our natural resources. That means holding developers accountable for their impacts, making sure proffers and agreements are fair, and prioritizing infrastructure improvements before approving more housing.
I also believe residents should have a stronger voice in shaping how Stafford grows. Too many citizens feel shut out of the process, with decisions made behind closed doors or rushed through without real input. Transparency and accountability must be at the heart of our growth strategy.
The Hartwood District represents a significant portion of Stafford’s rural heritage, and I am committed to preserving its character. Growth must be managed in a way that respects our history while preparing us for the future.

If you agree that Stafford should grow responsibly, not recklessly, I invite you to join this effort. Together, we can ensure that our county remains a place where families want to live — not a place overrun by uncontrolled development.
